Float Tank

Reset your mind and body

What is Floating?

Floating is commonly referred to as Floatation Therapy or Sensory Deprivation Therapy. It involves lying in a pod that contains a highly concentrated Epsom salt solution (500kg of magnesium sulphate) which creates the buoyancy for you to float effortlessly like in the Dead Sea. The water is heated to 35 degrees Celsius and the ambient room temperature is 28 degrees Celsius so the sensation of where the water and air begins and ends on your body dissolves and you feel like you’re floating.

The pod is both sound and light proof which gives your brain the chance to disconnect from the constant bombardment of sensory input and enhance your ability to be cognitive, mindful and introspective. The Epsom salt solution contains essential minerals that leave you feeling deeply relaxed and vibrant as the tension in your body melts away. There is simply no other technology or environment that can stimulate these evolutionary effects.

Being in the pods is more like floating in outer space than being shut in a box. You’re always in control of the lid which doesn’t lock and even people with extreme claustrophobia have reported having no problems with their time in the pod. You can even choose to float with the lid open if it makes you more comfortable.

There are five steps taken to maintain hygiene.

1. The water in the tank consists of approximately 50% Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate), which makes the water sterile, as no pathogenic organisms can survive salt concentrations above 10% like the Dead Sea.

2.  The whole tank of water gets filtered through a one-micron size medical grade filter three times in between each float.  The filter holes are 100 times smaller than a human hair to ensure the cleanliness of the water.

3. The water is treated daily with small amounts of hydrogen peroxide.  The water is tested daily for purity, pH, salinity and temperature.

4. We also use a UV light to keep the water clean

5. It’s also a policy that all clients shower before each float.

We recommend you wait one week after hair colourings and Keratin hair treatments just to be safe. Semi-permanent hair colouring has a longer wait. Do a bleed test by wetting your hair and then squeeze it dry on a white towel. Their must be no colouring on towel before you come in.

We recommend you wait one week after having a spray tan as it may affect your spray tan and contaminate the water.

No, the epsom salt in the water is a natural skin emollient. Your skin will feel silky smooth afterwards.

Although float tanks are physically safe for children, some may experience episodes of fear or claustrophobia. Some children mention that the darkness is calm and peaceful as opposed to the scary darkness of their bedrooms at night. Children under the age  of 18 may use the float tank with their parent’s supervision.
